ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava, a member of the refining and petrochemical group ORLEN Unipetrol, invests in the single European Train Control System (ETCS). ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava, a significant rail carrier in the Czech Republic, will operate the ETCS on 19 railway vehicles, thus increasing its fleet’s safety, efficiency, and transport interoperability on national and international routes and between ORLEN Group companies. This solution will also strengthen synergy between railway companies in the ORLEN Group operating on the Polish and Czech markets. The project is co-financed by the State Fund of Transport Infrastructure and the Ministry of Transport’s Operating Programme Transport.
“The ETCS will be deployed on 19 railway vehicles, including four locomotives of the 753.6 range (Bizon), eight locomotives of the 753.7 range (Cobra), and seven locomotives of the 383 range (Vectron),” specifies Jaroslav Dvořák, executive of ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava. He adds: “The investment in the ETCS is almost CZK 200 million, and about 50% of this sum is financed from the State Fund of Transport Infrastructure and the Operating Programme Transport of the Ministry of Transport.”
By investing in the state-of-the-art European Train Control System (ETCS), ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava meets both European and national regulations and standards and its own safety strategy, which plays a significant role in its operations. The ETCS boosts rail transport safety and replaces many incompatible, often outdated national train control systems in individual countries.
